A historic place for recuperation<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Kusthotellet Styrs\u00f6 is part of a long and rich tradition stretching back to the end of the 19th century, when the island established itself as one of Sweden\u2019s first health resorts. In 1893 Styrs\u00f6 Havsbad was opened, and the island quickly became a popular destination for health travellers. People came from far and wide to enjoy the famous sea bathing, which was said to strengthen both body and soul. From the past to the present<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At the start of the 20th century Styrs\u00f6 also played an important role in the care of children with tuberculosis. Doctor Peter Silfverski\u00f6ld, a prominent physician and pioneer in the rehabilitation of patients with tuberculosis, saw the potential in the island\u2019s clean sea air and lovely places for rest and recuperation. Under his leadership nursing homes and sanatoriums were established on the island, where children received nutritious food, rest and fresh air \u2013 factors that were then thought to be crucial in fighting the disease. Silfverski\u00f6lds work was characterised by care and innovation, and many children got the chance to recuperate here at a time when medical treatments were limited. Styrs\u00f6\u2019s role as a place for hope and healing is firmly etched in history, and Silfverski\u00f6ld\u2019s efforts are still an important part of the island\u2019s heritage.
